Amor y Amargo
Love and bitters. That’s the literal translation of this hole-in-the-wall bar that is brought to us by the same team as Cienfuegos upstairs and Gin Palace next door, including Ravi Derossi, also of Death & Co. Not for the faint of heart, the bar focuses solely on exploring the richness of the world’s bitters. There are classic Italian amaros, monastic French liqueurs, and a small selection of stirred cocktails that focus on highlighting both the appetite stimulating effects of bitters as well as their digestive properties. You can also buy a wide range of bar and bitters products for your home experimentation. Probably not the best place for your first cocktail experience, but a great one to explore and educate your palate. Oh, did we mention they have vermouth on tap?
Who: An advanced dipsologist friend or date (really not a good spot for a group larger than 3)
What: 8 Amaro Sazerac. Made with, yes, eight (8) kinds of bitters. Intense, delicious, very complex. Made for sipping.
When: Great for an after dinner night cap (to help with that digestion) during the week – for Jazz Wednesdays with bartender Sother Teague – or on weekends. Saturdays can get quite crowded and be a fun scene. We also love Double Buzz, their coffe-cocktail service on the weekend with outstanding food!
Good for: Quiet drinks with a few good friends – Low key date
Reservations: Not Accepted
Max Group Size: N/A but the bar is very small and not great for larger groups
Food: Bar Snacks | Wine: No | Beer: Yes
Thursdays til 12am
Fridays and Saturdays
Coffee Service weekends 11am-4pm
