Angel’s Share

One of the older – and smallest, and most difficult to find – cocktail bars in Manhattan, to get into Angel’s Share you walk up a staircase, into a second rate Japanese restaurant, and turn left into what looks like it might be a broom closet.  Or just look vaguely confused and someone will direct you.  Once inside, there are a handful of small tables, a few seats at the bar – and often a long wait.  Some nights there is live music, but the ambiance is always somewhat quiet and subdued – nice for a date or a good conversation with a few friends.  The cocktail menu has a seasonal section that rotates throughout the year, plus some staples, drawing inspiration from Japanese ingredients such as yuzu, matcha tea and plum wine.

Good for: Romantic date – Hidden location – Live music – Quiet drinks with a few good friends
