Located in the Carlyle Hotel, Bemelman’s is a beautiful slice of old New York. The murals that adorn the walls were done by Bemelman himself, who also illustrated the children’s classic Madeleine, the lighting is low, the leather booths romantic and the waiters – including Tommy Rowles, who’s been there over 50 years – dressed in red and white dinner jackets. Audrey Saunders and Dale DeGroff were brought in in the early 2000’s to revamp the bar program here – and it continues in their style. Go here when you’re feeling flush and classy, and expect to do some celebrity spotting.

What: Agave Gingerita – Agave, Egg White, Cointreau, French Ginger Liqueur, Fresh Lime Juice, Simple Syrup, it’s a little bit spicey, frothy from the egg white, one of our all time faves. Or, the classic martini, which they bring to the table in a small pitcher on ice so you can refill your glass.
