Jacob’s Pickles is as much a destination spot as it is a local favorite. In two short years, the restaurant has managed to win over Upper West Siders with its hearty Southern comfort food and All-American drink menu – a selection of beers from around the country and approachable, playful variations of classic cocktails, often featuring local and craft distillers. If you’re searching for a dinner spot during the week, after work drinks, or a boozy brunch spot, there’s always an occasion to visit.
Whether you’re seated outside or inside, any seat in the house feels VIP thanks to the owner, Jacob Hadjigeorgis, who does his best to greet almost every guest who comes in. “Everything you see and experience is a reflection of my background and story – from opening a mac and cheese shop to traveling obscure parts of the country and living in New York,” explains Jacob. From the Tito’s bottles that line the bar to the mason jars full of pickles, there’s an heir of familiarity to everything on the menu.
Although known for its “beer, biscuits, and pickles”, you’ll find a curated selection of house made cocktails and an equally impressive beer menu. Jacob and team use fresh ingredients to make fruit and herb-infusions, which are found in drinks like the Spicy Brine Margarita (House infused jalapeno Espelon Tequila and spicy pickle brine) and the Bloody BLT (peppercorn infused Tito’s Vodka, Niman Ranch Bacon, and a jalapeno infused egg).
Make a reservation or call ahead — this place gets packed during prime meal times and can have a wait of 2 hours+ on weekends for brunch.
Pro tip: Everything on the menu is shareable, especially since the portions are so large. You can’t go wrong with the mac and cheese and pickle sampler as bar snacks. For something refreshing, order the Porch Sipper. If you’re feeling adventurous, get the Dickel back.
