Manhattan Cricket Club

Manhattan Cricket Club is the Upper West Side’s only true speakeasy bar and is located upstairs from Burke and Wills (you’ll recognize the space if you ever frequented the Sunburnt Calf).  Tell the host or hostess that you’re interested in cocktails upstairs and pending availability, you’ll be escorted up a flight of stairs to a dimly lit cocktail den, complete with ornate gold and black walls, dark wooden panels, and a high top seating area.

Greg Seider leads the bar program here, which is quite a contrast from his downtown cocktail spot, Summit Bar on Avenue C. The cocktail menu changes seasonally and lists about a dozen cocktails. However, feel free to ask the bartender for something bespoke if you don’t see something you like on the menu.

MCC offers visitors a great date spot or place to catch up with a few good friends. There’s usually jazz music playing in the background and you can actually have a conversation without straining to speak up or hear the person you’re with. If you’re stuck ordering, go with a classic cocktail. We’re partial to the old fashioned and the one at MCC is particularly good.

Pro tip:   Grab the pair of seats by the window if you can. In the winter this is the perfect spot for a cozy night cap or the best place for a 1:1 with a special someone.

Good for: Classic Cocktails – Hidden entrance – Going solo – Impressing People – Quiet drinks with a few good friends – Romantic Date
