Mom Deserves Cocktails: What to Make on Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is a time to show the most important woman in your life that you care. And what better way than with cocktails. While you could take her out on the town for some libations, another option is to make them yourself, perhaps while you are also whipping up a tasty brunch or decadent dinner. Below you’ll find three recipes for drinks I think are perfect for moms. The first, an Aperol Spritz, is a good brunch option and it’s so easy to make! The other two are tequila based. Now, now, don’t be afraid of giving your mom an agave spirit. In fact, last year I introduced my mother to mezcal on Mother’s Day and she loved it. Show your love by educating mom on tequila and its versatility in cocktails. Also, let’s face it, after all that hard work of raising you, tequila might be just what your mom needs!

aperol spritz

Aperol Spritz

3 parts Prosecco
2 parts Aperol
Splash of soda

Start by adding ice into the glass then pour in the Prosecco, the Aperol and add a splash of soda, top with a slice of orange. This serving avoids the Aperol settling at the bottom.

Fun fact:  As part of their “Brunch for a Living” program, Aperol is looking to hire a “Chief Brunch Officer” in New York, LA, Miami and San Francisco to brunch all summer long on Aperol as a part of the Aperol Brunch Society – and even collect a paycheck while doing it. All applicants have to do to apply is submit a 15-second video on Instagram explaining why they should be picked. So if mom likes the Aperol Spritz you might want to have her enter the contest!


La Bonita Cocktail

1.75 oz Casamigos Reposado
1/4 oz Rose Liqueur
3/4 oz Lemon Juice
3/4 oz Fresh Pressed Apple Juice
1 Tablespoon Strawberry Preserves
3 dashes Absinthe
3 Dashes Bittermens Burlesque Bitters

Combine ingredients, shake and strain into a coupe. Garnish with a rose petal.

Agave & Grapes

1 oz Milagro Tequila Blanco
3/4 oz simple syrup
3/4 oz lemon juice
1 strawberry
Billecart-Salmon Brut Champagne

Put the strawberry in a shaker and add the simple syrup, muddle. Add the lemon and Tequila, add ice and shake. Double strain and serve into a flute glass. Top with Champagne. Garnish with a strawberry slice on top of the drink.
