Walking down Rivington Street, it’s easy to pass Nitecap, a basement level bar next to Schapiro’s restaurant. This new addition to the neighborhood is the work of Alex Day and David Kaplan of Death & Co and Natasha David of Maison Premiere. The space seats about 40 guests and has a dark, lounge feel, perfect for a date or final stop before heading home.

The all-star bar team is serving up a serious cocktail program, which is presented to patrons in a funky, playful 18 page booklet complete with jokes, drinking games, and Rodney Dangerfield quotes (full menu here). The menu offers bar snacks (pretzels, Schapiro’s fries, etc) three sections of house cocktails, a beer and shots menu, and a special late night section (it is called Nitecap after all).

Pro tip: The bar has been in previews for the past two weeks and officially opens Saturday. For first timers, we recommend starting with drinks towards the front and then working your way towards the back as the evening progresses.

Good for: Romantic or Low Key date – Late night – Quiet drinks with a few good friends – Experimental cocktails
