Casual drinks

Rum House

From the same team who brought us Ward III in Tribeca, comes a welcome respite from the madding crowd of Times Square.  We think they make some of the best cocktails in Midtown Manhattan.  They’ve got a healthy focus on rum, plus a range of house specials and classics, along with yummy bar snacks (deviled eggs, anyone?).  There’s live music every night, too, so don’t be surprised if a few couples bust out the dance moves

Who: Fun work colleagues or friends, this is a good one for larger groups

What: Yes, it’s called Rum House, but our go-to is the George Cohan, a house original with bourbon, Cocchi Americano (a white fortified wine that is herbaceous, a little bitter, and downright delicious), lemon, egg white and angostura bitters.  They also make a mean Pimm’s Cup.

When: A great spot for happy hour during the week or a later evening libation, or on weekends, see Pro Tip below.

Pro tip: Check them out on the weekends, when they serve 7 different kinds of Bloody Marys with free (FREE!) bagels and schmear from 11-5pm

Good for: Groups – Happy hour – Casual drinks – Fun for singles – Late night party scene – Live music
