Sweet Afton

Tucked away on an unassuming side street in the heart of Queen’s bustling Astoria, Sweet Afton is truly a unique find. With its dim lighting, dark wooden beams, leather booths, and exposed brick, Sweet Afton has a charm that makes it equally intimate and inviting for couples and large groups. While the food menu offers dressed up American fare featuring local ingredients (the Mac & cheese is to die for), the true stars at this establishment are the well balanced and excitingly original cocktails. From riffs on old classics like the Bourbon Negroni to simple and surprising newcomers like the Afton Punch (fondly reminiscent of mulling spices, it tastes like Christmas in a cup served over ice) or the Ginger Reviver with Lemon, the cocktail list has something for everyone. For those less fond of the hard stuff, Sweet Afton also has a wide selection of craft beers and wines to choose from.  Every Monday night brings live bluegrass, folk, and jazz performances, and Saturday and Saturday are popular for deliciously boozy brunch with drink specials.  With whimsical outdoor patio seating, this incredibly affordable sister of West Village’s Wilfie & Nell and East Village’s The Wren is well worth a trip across the Queenboro Bridge.
