Weather Up Tribeca
The long, copper bar, gleaming white tiles and amber lighting at Weather Up in Tribeca practically scream for you to take a seat at this elegant Tribeca watering hole. The second outpost of Kathryn Weatherup’s Prospect Heights original, it’s not hidden behind a coffe shop or underground, but if you aren’t paying attention you could easily walk right by. With a scene that is heavy on the financial type after-work crowd, the cocktails are classics and twists – see the What section below – or you can Keep Calm and Carry On with your capable bartender’s choice.
Who: A date, cool work colleagues, group of friends
What: On menu, we go for the Double Barrel, made with rye, sweet & dry vermouth, and bitters. Off menu, ask bar manager Danny Gil for the Trouble Maker – a variation of the Tom Collins with gin, sweet vermouth, lemon, strawberries and cucumber. Perfect for summer.
When: They’re busiest for weekday happy hour, but it’s a nice quieter spot for drinks on weekends as well
Pro tip: Order a dozen oysters with, appropriately, champagne citrus mignonette or gin martini granita with cucumber and black salt. Talk about redefining cocktails and oysters.
